About the artist
Alasdair Banks (b. Edinburgh, 1958) is a Glasgow-based artist celebrated for his dynamic equine paintings. Trained in Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, he has developed an international reputation for large, expressive works that capture the energy and movement of horse and rider.
Banks’ distinctive style emphasises bold line, colour, and gesture over realism, creating paintings that are as much about rhythm and atmosphere as subject. While best known for his equine art, he also applies his expressionist approach to cityscapes, architecture, motorsport, and other sporting themes.
His work has been exhibited widely across Europe, the USA, and Dubai, and he has created live paintings at events such as Glorious Goodwood, the Festival of Speed, and Scone Palace’s International Horse Trials.
