Joe Hargan DA PAI PPAI RGI RSW
Joe Hargan DA PAI PPAI RGI RSW was born in Glasgow in 1952 and trained at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1974. His career began with exhibitions in Scotland before expanding across the UK and internationally, including the Royal Academy in London.
His paintings are held in major corporate and private collections, among them the BBC, Bloomberg, the Bank of Scotland, the Royal Family of Kuwait, and King Charles III. Recognised for his distinctive style and sharp wit, Hargan is particularly celebrated for works featuring his recurring character “Sniffy,” now collected worldwide.
Over the course of his career he has received numerous honours, including the Contemporary Fine Art Award, the Maude Gemmell Hutchison Prize, the Paisley Art Institute Award, and the Royal Scottish Academy’s William Bowie Award.
Hargan is an elected member of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (RGI), the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW), and the Paisley Art Institute (PAI), where he has served multiple terms as President.
